Logistics Readiness

Logistics Readiness

Every aircraft that flies depends on a chain of people who never leave the ground. The Air Force Logistics Readiness career group covers the enlisted specialties that keep that chain intact: fuel in the tanks, parts on the shelf, vehicles staged and ready, and deployment plans written before the first order drops. Without this group, flight operations stop.

The 2F, 2G, 2S, and 2T career series span four distinct disciplines. Fuels specialists handle petroleum and cryogenic products at flight lines and fuel farms worldwide. Logistics plans specialists build the deployment and support frameworks that units execute during exercises and real-world operations. Materiel management specialists track and issue the spare parts, equipment, and consumables that every Air Force unit depends on daily. Vehicle operations specialists drive and dispatch the government fleet that moves people and cargo across every installation. The work ranges from hands-on and outdoors to desk-based planning and database management.

People drawn to this career group tend to be organized, systematic, and comfortable with accountability. Mistakes in logistics have real consequences: a wrong part number delays a mission, a fuels error grounds aircraft, a planning gap strands a unit downrange. If you like work where precision and follow-through matter every single day, this field fits well.

Which Role Fits You?

The four specialties in this group divide naturally into two clusters based on what the work looks like day to day.

If you want outdoor, equipment-focused work, look at 2F0X1 Fuels and 2T1X1 Vehicle Operations. Fuels specialists spend significant time at flight lines and fuel farms, operating specialized trucks and fuel-handling systems in all weather conditions. The work is physical, safety-critical, and tied directly to flight operations. Vehicle operations specialists drive military buses, cargo vehicles, and specialized equipment across base, dispatching and coordinating the government fleet. Both roles keep you active and outside rather than behind a desk. Fuels requires a higher ASVAB score and a Secret clearance, while vehicle ops has a lower bar for entry.

If you prefer analytical, office-based logistics work, 2G0X1 Logistics Plans and 2S0X1 Materiel Management are the better fit. Materiel management specialists manage inventory databases, process supply requests, and track equipment accountability using Air Force supply systems. It’s detail-oriented work with strong civilian transferability into warehouse management and supply chain roles. Logistics plans specialists operate at a higher level, writing unit deployment orders, coordinating war readiness materials, and supporting exercise planning. Plans work requires strong writing and analytical skills and typically involves a Secret clearance. Of the two, 2G0X1 tends to attract Airmen who want to work in operations planning as they advance, while 2S0X1 suits those who prefer inventory systems and customer service.

Clearance and ASVAB requirements differ across the four. Check the comparison table above for specifics, then visit each role’s profile for full qualification details.

Common Entry Requirements

All four specialties require a high school diploma, U.S. citizenship, and completion of Basic Military Training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, TX. Tech School locations vary by AFSC: Fuels trains at Sheppard AFB, TX, while the remaining three complete initial skills training at JBSA-Lackland or their designated training installation. Roles requiring a Secret clearance will initiate the background investigation during the accession process. See each role’s profile below for specific ASVAB scores, training details, and additional requirements.
